Minutes of the Zoning Board of Adjustment Hearing

June 8, 2005

Re: John Nugent would like to keep his sign on his building, which is oversized.

Members Present: Albion Lyons, Francis Sytek, and Harold Davis.

Others Present: Kevin McKinnon & Heidi Lawton.

Albion Lyons brought the meeting to order at 6:00pm.

None of the board had seen the sign at Northwood’s Truckstop, so we all went up, looked at the sign, and measured it.  There was not any duck-tape or metal stripping on the sign, as Mr. Nugent said there would be.  Then the board drove to Pik-Quik and measured their signs on the building that Mr. Nugent said were like his.  The board saw no problem with the signs at Pik-Quik, as they are two different signs hung together, in their own metal casing.

Francis likes the sign the way it is, but feels that if he put the sign up without a permit first and it is the wrong size, then he has broken the rules.  Harold thinks that the sign is fine, but it is oversized.

Kevin explained that Mr. Nugent’s original application was supposed to be a sign that met the requirements, but then he put up a sign that was much larger.

Albion agrees that his sign is nice, but the law is the law and if we let one do it, then everyone will want to do it.

The board decided that Mr. Nugent should really have to separate signs.

Francis made a motion to deny Mr. Nugent’s variance, Harold seconded the motion, motion passed, variance denied.

Harold made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Francis seconded the motion, meeting adjourned at 7:00pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Heidi Lawton
