A. By-laws
The committee had time to look over the by-laws once again and there were some minor changes which will be made by Melissa that sent back out for final review along with the program procedures pages.
B. Recreation Basketball Fees
The basketball fee is not going to change for the upcoming season Colebrook is charging along the lines as all other recreation departments in the state. After attending a recreation liability workshop the registration form has been redone to include the information our insurance company wants on it. A few grammatical errors will be changed and it will be ready.
C. Programs
Book Discussion-those that participate in the book discussion are making lists of their favorite
books to use a “favorite” section in the library.
Evaluations- more than expected teen evaluations came back with interesting results…the
adventures the counselors liked the kids liked least and vice-versa. Overall the feedback was
positive and some great future ideas were given.
HOAP brochure- the HOAP open house sign up will be on October 16th at UCVH and the first
event will be November 12th with a shopping trip to North Conway. The focus this year is to
get more “adults” involved in the program. Brochures and registration forms are being mailed
out to last years members. Brouchures will also be placed a the clinics in the area (Avery,
Latham, Judd, ISHC)
D. Old Business
Story Walk- Should go up on Monday with the help of Andy Hicks who has donated the plywood
and stakes. Letters will go in the teachers mailboxes as well as in the recreation article.
Cooking Class- have not gotten in touch with Kristin Brooks but the suggestion was also give to speak
with Heidi Fairhead about doing a gingerbread house workshop
Glow Sticks- These have been ordered and will be distributed with a note
E. New Business
Program Ideas?- what programs are needed/wanted for the community. There was discussion that
there is little for the 4-10 age group once recreation basketball season ends. What is available
for resources during the months of January-May for this age group. The difficult situation is
space, where to hold events?
Broomball was discussed as well as snow softball
Geocaching- this would be great for the teen camp in the summer as well as an opportunity for
families to do an outdoor event together. There was discussion about the recreation department
purchasing handheld GPS units to use in the camp as well as rent/loan out to the community.
Melissa will speak to Donna about purchasing 3 units for future programming and will look in to
have information night to explain to families and those interested what it is, how it works, some of
the basic rules.
Letters to Santa Program- the board was very excited to start this program for the upcoming
season. The program will be researched and written up to be presented at the next Advisory
Board meeting.
Thursday Movie Night will be coming back within the next month or so….could hold matinees
during the week for the toddlers in the community. A drive in with boxes made into cars and
