Minutes of the Colebrook Energy Committee,       Tuesday,  January 6, 2009

Members Present:   Julie, Merie, Chris, Brian, Bob & Dick

Julie brought the meeting to order and asked Dick to review the facts of the regional environmental meeting of August 2007 held in Bethlehem. At that meeting it was suggested that towns form energy committees to work at the select board’s pleasure.   District Energy Committees made up of several towns were suggested to bring the focus of each towns committee to a forum where ideas could be shared and used. It was envisioned that the districts would form together to create regional - committee's to further share and create a resource for ideas and create a coalition of environmental groups throughout the state.

Discussion followed and the December '08 meeting ideas were reviewed. It was decided that this group would form a regional committee made up of members from different towns. That a Colebrook Energy Committee would be formed as a sub group of this committee to serve the direct needs of the town.

It was felt that further research should be done by the CEEC in recycling, energy (district heating) plus address issues with climate change and reduction of greenhouse gases through the Carbon Coalition. The group also felt that by working as a district group better access to funding might be available.
Colebrook Recycling is to run as a business and will derive its funding through Pay as You Throw efforts. Thus paying for the transportation and tipping fees of the solid waste while reducing the amount of solid waste going into the landfill. The committee should get financial facts to help promote the Pay as You Throw program through articles and P/R in the community.

The town meeting is Tuesday, March 10th. Because of this it was decided to have our March meeting on Tuesday, March 3rd.

Larry Rappaport as that we consider moving the meetings to Friday night to afford him the opportunity to attend.

PSNH Auditor will be here the third or fourth week in January.

It was thought that we could increase energy awareness by moving the displays from the Expo around to different businesses in town. Smart Energy has a display at the Copper Leaf. It might be good to also develop a directory of all local businesses and companies using alternative energy to reduce their carbon foot print.

The meeting adjourned at 9:35.
