Colebrook Energy Committee Minutes                                                      June 9, 2009

Attending:  Chris Gueymard, Kevin McKinnon, Cathy Thomas, Bob Soucy, Julie Moran

Our recommended appointees were accepted by the Selectboard, and Donna Caron has requested that those appointed come to the Town office to be sworn in.  Julie is hoping to get us all together and get it in the paper.  Dick Harris, Mike and Lisa Whitaker, Kevin McKinnon, and Julie Moran are the volunteers to date.  Others are invited; we just need to put their names before the Selectboard.

Energy Expo:  Dick Harris and Lisa Whitaker are working on a date.  Tentative date was Oct 24th at Elementary school, but it had conflicts.  Will need to confirm it with Dick for next meeting.  Discussion ensued about the hours of the conference, and the timing of House Tours.  If they are done during the Expo, it might interfere with attendance in the seminars.  House Tours were suggested to be from 3-6 PM on Saturday "after" the Conference, rather than on Sunday or throughout the day.

Website:  Info is needed for creation of our Energy Committee Website next month.  Request from Larry Rappaport to send in contributions to the website even now, via email, and please cc Julie Moran.  Ideas:  weatherization, audits, local resources providing local energy; all of us are requested to contribute this month, so send in links, and articles to Larry!

LEC conference upcoming:  June 20 in Concord, for help in forming our groups.  Also will hopefully deal with our issue of liability with weatherization and audits if we perform those services to locals, on behalf of the energy committee.  Julie is gathering a list for our group so that we can qualify for reduced cost.  Please contact her if you plan to go.  If we get 3+, it is $15pp.

Local Electricity Project:  Landfill will be one.  Another could be the use of the Murphy dam.  Discussion about its ownership: Canada or NH, and if  NH owns it, then they could provide significant income for the state: which would be better than raising taxes or allowing gambling.  It would need upgraded transmission lines, but a power company might be interested.  Bob Soucy will contact John Gallus and Eric Stohl about the possibility.

Discussion of differences of Town committee vs. ad hoc committee:  Town committee should be focusing on town concerns:  Biomass project, Recycling at Transfer station, and Landfill project.  FYI - the landfill is going to light the flare this week.  And there is a meeting on it this Thursday.  Need photos.  Tour will be coming in mid July according to Kevin.  For Transfer station, J Moran is going to make a "compost" sign.
