December was an active month weather-wise. Out of a 22 working day month we spent 17 days plowing and or sanding. With the rain we had we have used approximately half of our sandpile or 2500 yards total to date. This is normal usage looking at previous years. Maintenance has also been as expected, changing cutting edges on plows and wings, repairing tire chains etc.
At the landfill we cleaned the air stripper and many of the pumps. All the pits for the pumps have been winterized. The system is running very well.
We had a meeting with PPL to finalize the contracts and to get the rest of the gas piping work completed so we can get the flare operating.
We started assembling the baler in the storage building. Weather permitting we will complete that project next month. S&S electric will wire it up for us. The conduit is all run to the control panel. We had lights wired up in the storage building. The light fixtures themselves were salvaged by the crew, no cost for the fixtures. The furnace has been hooked up by Norm Broome. The furnace was also a salvage and it operates fine.
I have asked for a price on installing ceiling fans in the town garage. Fans could reduce our heat bill by as much as 20% or $600.00 per year. If the cost is under this amount the savings in oil usage should pay for the installation. I will ask the selectboard to consider this as soon as I have some numbers. Kevin F. McKinnon PW Director |
