2007 December Progress Report

December 2007 Progress Report
For the Public Works Department

We have had one of the snowiest Decembers on record! We plowed and sanded all month. Cleaning streets has been filling up the backside of the town parking lot. We have as much snow as we had all of last year. The whole crew has been out straight working every weekend. We have hired Gary Gebhart to take Ross Riley's place. Brad Hann decided to retire this month and we all wish him the best and hope he enjoys a long retirement! Richard Norris is going to take Brad's place.

The water main at the Mohawk River crossing on Pleasant St. broke the evening of the 21st. Dan Lyons and Kevin McKinnon worked on the valves to get the water shut off. We lost 60,000 gallons of water, which seems big but really was a small amount for a 6" main to be running full stream under pressure. We now have only one pipe feeding the entire north end of town and the east side of the river. The fire department is aware of the water problem and is prepared to respond effectively without the hydrants. We have also asked people to conserve water until we can get the pipe repaired. The hospital has also made emergency preparations in case of a shortage of water.

Merry Christmas!
