The Highway department has been busy rebuilding a section of Piper Hill Rd. just before the Aldrich Rd. intersection. We excavated the roadbed and put in underdrain to collect the water. Stone was placed under, around and over the piping. There was also another foot of 4" to 6" stone placed over that, then road fabric and crushed gravel. This should take care of the chronic mud problem in that particular location.
The roadside mowing is completed; we got an exceptional job done this year. Brush was trimmed back further to make mowing easier in the future. Mowing is also done on Class 6 roads; this year was Willy and Hanson roads.
The entrance to the garage/transfer station has been cleaned up by the crew neatening the area and aesthetically pleasing.
We now have a portable cement mixer, thanks to Lenny Martel. It has an engine on it so it can be used in remote locations.
Water and Sewer has been busy with maintenance. The generators are having their yearly oil, filters etc. changed. We have mowed the areas around the reservoir and lagoons. Solarbee aerators have been approved with PSNH financing the project.
We will replace our existing aeration with an eventual savings of $36,000.00 per year. The replacement and maintenance costs have not been figured into this savings which is an additional $10,000.00/ year cost savings.0
The crew went over and above their job performance fixing the water main on Rte. 26 (Parson's St.). We got into the river and wrestled the pipes back together by hand. GREAT JOB GUYS! This was a $65,000.00 savings!
James Gates (our newest employee) has successfully rebuilt a sewer pump motor with an approximate savings of $250.00 to the sewer dept.
Scrap metal has been a good market this year, with over $6000.00 already this year.
The Landfill cap is being placed now; about 5.5 acres to be completed this summer. The berm construction for this year is complete, there is a "gap" that the trucks drive through right now which will be closed in next year. Filling is in the norhtwest corner of the site at this time and the dome shape will become more apparent as time goes on.
