Questions concerning your latest tax bills - acreage changes

Any one with questions or concerns about your latest tax bills or your acreage changes need to contact the local Town Office at 603-237-4142. All the information if incorrect will need to be corrected before October 1, 2008, at that time the reports for the State will have to be printed and then no corrections can be made until the second bills have been issued. If a discrepancy arises, after these bills have been issued, an abatement will have to be filed with the proof you are using to show the incorrect information. After the abatement is filed the assessors will then be notified and they will respond, then the information from both the tax payer and the assessor will be given to the Board of Selectmen and they will make the final decision some time in June. In the mean time the bill will still need to be paid so the customer is not charged 12% interest. If the abatement is granted we will then refund the overpayment with 6% interest from the date of payment.

Please note it will be much easier for you the tax payer and the office staff if the issues in question are submitted no later than September 15, 2008, this will allow two (2) weeks before the deadline date of October 1, 2008 (which is the extension date allowed by the State).
